What are the advantages of spraying Teflon on embossing molds?
Spraying Teflon (polytetrafluoroethylene, PTFE) on embossing molds is a common surface treatment process. Its effects are mainly reflected in the following aspects. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to the applicable scenarios and limitations:
I. The core effect of Teflon coating
1. Excellent non-stickiness (anti-stick effect)
Function: Teflon has extremely low surface energy (friction coefficient of about 0.05-0.1), which can significantly reduce the adhesion between the mold and the embossed material (such as cloth, leather, plastic, metal, etc.).
Application scenario:
When used to process materials with strong viscosity (such as hot-melt plastics, adhesive-coated cloth), it can prevent the material from sticking to the mold surface and reduce the scrap rate.
Simplify the demoulding process and improve production efficiency, especially suitable for complex patterns or deep relief molds.
2. Wear and corrosion protection
Wear resistance: Although the hardness of Teflon coating itself is not high (about 60-70 HRA), it has good self-lubrication, which can reduce the wear rate of the mold surface and extend the life of the mold (especially for molds with high frequency use).
Corrosion resistance: Teflon has extremely high tolerance to strong acids, strong alkalis, solvents, etc., and is suitable for processing materials containing chemical additives (such as dyes, corrosive additives).
3. Improved surface smoothness
Effect: The coating can fill the microscopic defects on the mold surface and form a smooth coating (surface roughness Ra can be reduced to 0.2-0.8μm), making the embossed pattern edge clearer and the gloss more uniform.
Applicable scenarios: Fields with high requirements for pattern fineness (such as high-end leather embossing, precision electronic component packaging).
4. High temperature resistance and chemical stability
Temperature range: Teflon can be used for a long time at -180℃ to 260℃, suitable for high-temperature embossing processes (such as hot-pressed plastics, hot-melt adhesive bonding).
Chemical stability: Avoid reactions between the mold and the chemical substances in the material (such as vulcanization and oxidation) to maintain long-term consistency of the pattern.
