How to choose the material of embossing mold?
Choose different materials according to the following conditions
1. Processing material characteristics
Hard materials (such as thick leather, metal foil): steel is preferred to ensure the strength and wear resistance of the mold, and avoid unclear embossing or mold breakage.
Soft materials (such as thin cloth, sponge, PVC leather): silicone, rubber or aluminum alloy can be selected to reduce material damage and reduce mold costs.
High temperature process (such as hot pressing): stainless steel or copper (good thermal conductivity and high temperature resistance) is required to avoid melting and deformation of materials such as silicone.
2. Production scale and cost
Large-scale industrial production: Investing in steel molds, although the initial cost is high, but the service life is long (up to tens of thousands of times), and the cost per piece is lower.
Small batch/customized production: Choose copper, silicone or resin to reduce the cost of trial and error, especially when the pattern needs to be changed frequently.
Sample development stage: first use resin or 3D printed metal molds to quickly verify the design, and then open the steel mold after confirming the effect.
3. Pattern accuracy and complexity
Fine patterns (such as imitation crocodile leather texture, letter LOGO): steel or copper must be used, and high-precision details must be achieved through CNC engraving or EDM.
Rough patterns (such as large-scale geometric patterns): aluminum alloy or silicone can be used to reduce processing difficulty and cost.
4. Special process requirements
Embossed with a strong three-dimensional sense of concave and convex: silicone molds have good elasticity and can press out deeper concave and convex effects, especially suitable for fabrics or leathers that require a "three-dimensional relief feel".
Anti-slip or wear-resistant requirements: steel molds can be further hardened through surface treatment (such as nitriding, plating), which is suitable for scenarios that require long-term use (such as sole embossing).
