Self-lubricating liquid silicone is a silicone material with special properties. Here are some detailed introductions about it:
Basic characteristics
Good lubricity
It has the characteristics of self-lubrication. It can show a low friction coefficient without adding additional lubricants during use, which makes the objects in contact with it smoother in relative motion, reducing wear and energy loss. For example, in some application scenarios of mechanical parts that need to slide or rotate, it can effectively reduce the friction between parts and extend the service life of the parts.
Excellent flexibility
Liquid silicone itself has good flexibility and elasticity. Self-lubricating liquid silicone inherits this advantage. It can adapt to molds of different shapes for molding, and can quickly restore to its original state after being squeezed and stretched by external forces. It can be used to make some products that need to be elastic and frequently deformed, such as seals.
Good high and low temperature resistance
It can maintain stable performance in a wide temperature range, and can usually withstand environments with low temperatures ranging from tens of degrees below zero to two or three hundred degrees high. It will not become brittle and hard in cold environments and lose lubrication characteristics, nor will it easily melt or decompose in high temperature environments. It is suitable for some parts around automobile engines, as well as some industrial equipment sealing and lubrication applications in high temperature environments.
High chemical stability
It has good tolerance to most chemical substances and is not easy to react chemically with acids, alkalis, organic solvents, etc., ensuring that its structure and performance will not be destroyed when used in different chemical environments, maintaining good self-lubrication and other related properties, so it can be used in complex industrial environments with chemical substances or some products with high requirements for chemical stability.
Preparation process
Generally, the basic liquid silicone raw materials are first fully mixed with specific self-lubricating additives. These additives may be some high molecular polymers with low friction characteristics, special powder materials, etc. Through advanced stirring and dispersion processes, ensure that the additives are evenly dispersed in the liquid silicone system, and then the mixed air bubbles are removed through vacuum degassing and other processing links, and finally the required finished product shape is made through injection molding, extrusion or casting and other molding processes, such as various sealing gaskets, bearing bushings or some medical equipment lubricating parts.
