What is pot life of liquid silcione rubber?

The pot life of liquid silicone rubber (LSR) refers to the amount of time the mixed material remains workable before it begins to cure and becomes too viscous for processing.

Typical Pot Life of LSR:

Standard LSR (Platinum-cure): Usually 4 to 8 hours at room temperature (~23°C/73°F).

Fast-cure LSR: As short as 30 minutes to 2 hours (depending on formulation).

Extended pot life LSR: Some specialty grades can last 24 hours or more before curing.

Factors Affecting Pot Life:

Temperature: Higher temperatures (e.g., >25°C) drastically reduce pot life.

Catalyst/Inhibitor System: Platinum-cure LSR is sensitive to contaminants and heat.

Mix Ratio: Some two-part LSRs have a 1:1 ratio, while others may vary.

Humidity & Contaminants: Certain chemicals (sulfur, amines) can inhibit or accelerate curing.

Key Notes:

Once mixed, LSR should be used within its pot life to avoid premature curing.

Unmixed Part A & Part B can have a much longer shelf life (typically 6–12 months when stored properly).
