What are the advantages of silicone in physical and chemical properties compared to PVC?
Elasticity and flexibility:
Silicone: Excellent elasticity, can quickly return to its original shape after stretching, not prone to permanent deformation after long-term use, good flexibility (especially room temperature vulcanized silicone).
PVC: Soft PVC relies on plasticizers to obtain flexibility. After long-term use, plasticizers are easy to migrate, causing the material to harden and crack; hard PVC lacks elasticity and is more brittle.
Wear resistance and aging resistance:
Silicone: Smooth surface, strong wear resistance, UV resistance, oxidation resistance, long-term exposure to air or sunlight is not easy to yellow, harden, and the service life can reach several years or even longer.
PVC: Easily affected by ultraviolet rays, fading, cracking, poor wear resistance, especially soft PVC is easy to wear and become sticky after long-term use.
Advantages of silicone: More stable physical properties, longer service life, especially suitable for high-frequency use or outdoor environments.
4. Chemical stability
Silicone:
Strong chemical resistance, good tolerance to common substances such as water, alcohol, neutral detergents, grease, etc., not easily dissolved or corroded.
PVC:
Weak chemical resistance, easily corroded by organic solvents (such as gasoline, alcohol), strong acids and alkalis, causing surface swelling, discoloration or cracking.
Silicone advantage: More reliable in scenarios where it is exposed to a variety of chemicals (such as laboratory equipment, industrial seals).
