Silicon dioxide can be used as a food additive.
According to my country's "Standards for the Use of Food Additives" (GB 2760-2024), silicon dioxide can be used as an anti-caking agent in milk powder and cream powder and their prepared products (except 01.03.01 milk powder and cream powder), other dairy products (such as whey powder, casein powder) (limited to milk tablets), other special dietary foods (limited to special medical formula foods for children aged 1 to 10 years old), etc., with a maximum usage of 15.0g/kg and 10.0g/kg respectively. In addition, silicon dioxide can also be used in raw grains, spices, solid compound seasonings, cocoa products, dehydrated egg products, solid beverages, instant coffee and other products.
The European Commission and the US Food and Drug Administration also allow silicon dioxide to be used as an anti-caking agent in various foods. The evaluation results of the Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations/World Health Organization show that the daily allowable intake of silicon dioxide does not need to be limited.
