Precautions for making silicone molds

When making silicone molds, in order to ensure the quality and service life of the mold, you need to pay attention to the following matters:

1. Silicone selection and ratio
Choose the right type of silicone:
Choose industrial grade or food grade silicone according to the use requirements.
The viscosity of liquid silicone should also be selected according to the product characteristics to ensure that bubbles are easily discharged during the molding process.
Accurately proportion silicone and curing agent:
Mix according to the recommended ratio of silicone and curing agent, usually the weight ratio ranges from 100:1.5 to 100:3, depending on factors such as room temperature, mold strength and hardness.
The amount of curing agent added should not exceed the recommended range, otherwise it may cause the mold to cure too quickly, become brittle, and reduce its service life.
2. Operation process
Stir evenly:
When mixing silicone and curing agent, ensure that the mixing is even to avoid local poor curing.
Bubble removal treatment:
The mixed silicone should be treated with bubble removal, and a vacuum machine can be used to remove bubbles.
The vacuum time should not be too long to avoid cross-linking reaction when the silicone is cured.
Apply or pour silicone: Before applying or pouring silicone, apply a release agent evenly on the master mold for subsequent demolding. Apply silicone evenly to ensure that the thickness of the mold surface is consistent. When pouring silicone, pay attention to controlling the flow rate and flow rate to avoid bubbles and waste of materials.

3. Mold design

Reasonable design of mold line: The choice of mold line should not affect the overall effect and product quality of the product. The mold line should be convenient for mold removal and subsequent processing.

Fix the master mold: The master mold should be firmly fixed in the mold frame to avoid displacement when pouring silicone.

Consider demolding convenience: The convenience of demolding should be considered when designing the mold, such as selecting a reasonable parting surface, setting the demolding slope, etc.

4. Curing and demolding

Control the curing conditions: The curing temperature and time should be determined according to the type of silicone and product requirements. Avoid sudden temperature changes and vibrations during the curing process to avoid affecting the quality of the mold.

Correct demolding: After the silicone is completely cured, carefully remove the mold from the mold frame. Avoid damaging the mold surface and the mother mold when demolding.
5. Subsequent processing and maintenance
Trimming edges:
Use scissors or a knife to trim excess silicone on the edge of the mold to make the mold neater.
Cleaning and maintenance:
The mold should be cleaned in time after use to remove residues and stains.
When storing, avoid direct sunlight and high temperature environment to extend the service life of the mold.

In summary, when making silicone molds, you need to pay attention to the selection and ratio of silicone, the operation process, mold design, curing and demolding, and subsequent processing and maintenance. Only by strictly following the specifications can high-quality silicone molds be made.
