1. Definition and Classification

Definition:
Liquid silicone rubber (LSR) for coating applications is a high-performance elastomer formed by mixing two components-a base polymer and a crosslinker-that undergo a crosslinking reaction under specific conditions to cure. It is characterized by excellent flowability, fast curing, and suitability for casting or injection molding.

Classification:
Based on the curing mechanism, liquid silicone rubber can be divided into two main types:

Addition-cure LSR:
This type cures through an addition reaction between hydrogen-containing silicone oil and vinyl silicone oil, catalyzed by platinum. It offers advantages such as low toxicity, odorlessness, environmental friendliness, and minimal shrinkage of the cured product.

Condensation-cure LSR:
This type cures through a condensation reaction between silanol groups, facilitated by a catalyst. It is more cost-effective but may release certain by-products and emit odor during curing.


2. Characteristics

High and Low-Temperature Resistance:
LSR for coatings maintains stability under extreme temperature conditions, making it suitable for high- or low-temperature environments.

Electrical Insulation:
It provides excellent insulation properties, making it ideal for applications in electronics, electrical equipment, and communication sectors.

Biocompatibility:
LSR has been extensively tested and shows excellent compatibility with human tissue and body fluids, making it suitable for medical coating applications.

Chemical Resistance:
It resists water, oxidation, and certain chemical solutions, such as acids and alkalis.

Transparency and Pigmentation:
LSR is naturally transparent, facilitating the production of vibrant and colorful coating products.

Medical Field:

Used for coatings on medical devices such as catheters and artificial organs to enhance biocompatibility and durability.

Applied to medical masks and pads, offering comfort and longevity.

Consumer Electronics:
