In the application of automotive silicone tubes and gaskets and other miscellaneous parts, liquid silicone has many advantages over solid silicone, as follows:
High molding precision: Liquid silicone adopts injection molding process, which can achieve very high dimensional accuracy and complex shapes. It can be filled into the fine structure of the mold to produce products with fine structure and smooth surface. For some precision gaskets and seals on the car, such as the engine valve cover gasket, the waterproof sealing gasket of electronic equipment, etc., liquid silicone can better meet their high-precision requirements and ensure sealing performance and assembly accuracy.
Better flexibility and elasticity: Liquid silicone has excellent flexibility and elasticity, and can quickly return to its original shape after being deformed by external force. This feature makes it excellent in some automotive silicone tube applications that require frequent bending or deformation. For example, some wire protection tubes inside the car need to bend continuously with the vibration of the vehicle and the movement of the parts. Liquid silicone tubes can better adapt to this dynamic environment and reduce rupture or damage caused by fatigue.
Better chemical stability: The molecular structure of liquid silicone is more uniform, and its chemical stability is better than solid silicone in some special chemical environments. In the automobile braking system, the brake fluid has a certain corrosiveness. The sealing gasket made of liquid silicone can better withstand the erosion of the brake fluid and ensure the safety and reliability of the braking system. Some automotive parts that are exposed to fuel additives or other chemicals can also obtain better chemical protection performance by using liquid silicone.
High production efficiency (for complex shape products): For complex-shaped automotive silicone parts, although the cost of liquid silicone injection molding equipment is high, once the mold design and debugging are completed, its production efficiency is relatively high. It can mold complex structures at one time, reducing the steps of subsequent processing and assembly. In contrast, solid silicone compression molding may require multiple parts combination or more post-processing for complex shapes, and the production cycle is longer.
Good demolding: Liquid silicone has relatively low adhesion to the mold during the injection molding process and has good demolding performance. This means that during the production process, the product is easier to remove from the mold, reducing the problem of product damage and reduced production efficiency caused by demolding difficulties. At the same time, it also helps to extend the service life of the mold and reduce production costs.
Good biocompatibility (specific applications): In some automotive interior parts or parts that come into contact with the human body, the biocompatibility of liquid silicone gives it an advantage. For example, in parts such as silicone massage pads on car seats, liquid silicone will not cause irritation or allergic reactions to human skin, providing a better user experience.
