How long does it take for room temperature curing silicone dipped shoelaces to cure?
The curing time of room temperature curing silicone dipped shoelaces is not fixed. It is affected by many factors. The following is a detailed introduction for you:
Silicone type: Different types of room temperature curing silicone have different curing times. Single-component room temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (RTV-1) mainly cures by absorbing moisture in the air. The curing speed is relatively slow. Generally, it may take 24 hours or even longer to fully cure. Two-component room temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (RTV-2) cures by chemical reaction of two components. The curing speed is relatively fast. Under the correct ratio and appropriate conditions, the surface drying time may range from 30 minutes to several hours, and it may take 8 to 24 hours to fully cure.
Ambient temperature: Temperature has a significant effect on the curing speed of silicone. Generally speaking, the higher the temperature, the faster the curing speed; the lower the temperature, the slower the curing speed. In a room temperature environment of about 25°C, some two-component room temperature curing silicone may be able to dry in 1-2 hours and be basically fully cured in 8-12 hours. However, if the temperature drops to around 10°C, the surface drying time may be extended to 3-5 hours, and the complete curing time may take 24 hours or even longer.
Ambient humidity: Humidity is also an important factor affecting the curing of silicone, especially for single-component silicone. Higher humidity is conducive to the absorption of moisture by single-component silicone for curing reaction. In an environment with a relative humidity of 60%-80%, the curing speed of single-component silicone will be faster than in a dry environment. For example, in an environment with suitable humidity, single-component silicone may be fully cured in 12-18 hours, while in a dry environment it may take more than 24 hours.
Silicone coating thickness: The thickness of the silicone coating dipped on the shoelaces is different, and the curing time will also be different. When the coating is thin, the curing speed is relatively fast; when the coating is thick, the curing of the internal silicone will be affected to a certain extent, and the curing time will be extended. For example, a silicone coating with a thickness of 0.5 mm may be basically cured within a few hours, while when the thickness reaches 2 mm, it may take more than 12 hours to fully cure.
