How is the heat dissipation of silicone?
Ordinary silicone: General silicone materials, such as common soft silicone products (silicone pads, silicone sealing rings, etc.), have relatively low thermal conductivity, usually between 0.1-0.3W/(m・K), and their heat dissipation performance is not outstanding. This is because silicone itself is a high molecular polymer, and its molecular structure is relatively loose, which is not conducive to the conduction of heat. These ordinary silicones mainly play the role of insulation, sealing, buffering, etc., and cannot assume the main function in heat dissipation. For example, ordinary silicone gaskets used in some electronic products are mainly to prevent dust and moisture from entering, rather than for heat dissipation.
Thermally conductive silicone: In order to improve the heat dissipation performance of silicone, people have developed thermally conductive silicone by adding high thermal conductivity fillers (such as metal oxides, metal nitrides, carbon nanotubes, etc.) to silicone. The thermal conductivity of thermally conductive silicone can be significantly improved. Depending on the type and content of the filler, the thermal conductivity can be 0.5-15W/(m・K) or even higher. This kind of silicone is often used for heat dissipation of electronic devices. For example, applying thermal conductive silicone between the CPU and the radiator can effectively fill the tiny gap between the two, reduce thermal resistance, and improve the efficiency of heat transfer from the CPU to the radiator, thereby helping electronic components to dissipate heat better and ensure the normal operation of the equipment.
Heat dissipation silicone sheet: Heat dissipation silicone sheet is a silicone product specially used for heat dissipation. It has good flexibility and compressibility and can fit tightly to heating components and heat dissipation devices. The thermal conductivity of heat dissipation silicone sheet is generally around 1-6W/(m・K). It can evenly distribute heat to a larger area and speed up heat dissipation. Heat dissipation silicone sheets are widely used in portable electronic devices such as laptops and tablets to solve the problem of limited internal space and difficult heat dissipation of the device.
