Application of self-lubricating silicone in medical catheters

Urinary Catheter:
Self-lubricating silicone is used as the surface coating of the catheter, which can effectively reduce friction during insertion. This can significantly reduce pain for patients, especially in the case of long-term indwelling urinary catheters. Good lubricity can reduce the incidence of complications such as urethral injury and infection. For example, for some patients with neurogenic bladder who require long-term indwelling catheters, the use of self-lubricating silicone catheters can better ensure the integrity of the urethral mucosa.

Vascular catheters:
In the application of intravascular catheters (such as central venous catheters), self-lubricating silicone can make the catheter easier to insert into the blood vessel and reduce damage to the vascular endothelium. Vascular endothelial damage is one of the important factors that cause serious complications such as thrombosis. The use of self-lubricating silicone helps to improve the safety of catheter insertion.
