Unfilled nitrile silicone rubber is a clear polymer with a similar appearance to dimethylpolysiloxane. The preparation and processing of the mixed rubber can be carried out according to the technology commonly used in the rubber industry, and the vulcanization can also be carried out by the method used in ordinary silicone rubber. The mechanical properties of nitrile silicone rubber are similar to those of general-purpose silicone rubber when the formulation of the compound and its preparation method are correctly selected.
Nitrile silicone rubber is very promising due to its successful combination of oil resistance and cold resistance. Since 1958, NSR-X5602 has been used in the aerospace industry to manufacture gaskets and seals that operate in periodic or occasional contact with highly swellable liquids. It can also be used to make seals on automobile gearboxes and differentials, to make seals on brakes, rubber air springs, and in the electrical and petroleum industries.
