The following are some alternatives to platinum catalysts:
Organic peroxide catalyst:
Advantages: Organic peroxide catalyst has certain advantages in curing speed and relatively low cost, which is suitable for some scenarios with high requirements for curing speed and strict cost control. It can make silicone undergo cross-linking reaction under heating or room temperature conditions to achieve curing. For example, it is widely used in the production of some industrial products and rubber products.
Disadvantages: The cured product may not be as good as the platinum catalyst in some properties, such as transparency, aging resistance, etc. It may be slightly inferior to the platinum catalyst. In addition, organic peroxides may produce some by-products during the decomposition process, which require subsequent treatment.
Polythiol catalyst:
Advantages: Polythiol catalyst is a room temperature or low temperature fast catalyst, which can quickly cure materials such as epoxy resin at room temperature, with short curing time and high efficiency. Compared with platinum catalyst, it may have a more advantageous price, and it has a strong adaptability to the environment, and can have a good curing effect even in low temperature and humid environments.
Disadvantages: The cured product of polythiol catalyst may have some differences with platinum catalyst in terms of performance, such as heat resistance and mechanical strength may not be as good as the product cured by platinum catalyst.
Modified amine catalyst:
Advantages: Modified amine catalyst has good curing effect, can react with a variety of materials, and has a wide range of applications. Its curing speed can be controlled by adjusting the formula, which has advantages in some applications with specific requirements for curing speed. And the cost of this type of catalyst is relatively low and easy to obtain.
Disadvantages: Compared with platinum catalyst, modified amine catalyst may have differences in the performance of the cured product, such as chemical resistance and electrical properties may not be as good as the product cured by platinum catalyst. And this type of catalyst may have a certain odor, and attention should be paid to ventilation and protection.
Isocyanate catalyst:
Advantages: Isocyanate catalyst is widely used in the curing of polyurethane materials, and has good properties such as wear resistance, chemical resistance and mechanical strength. It can react with components such as polyols to form polyurethane materials, and has important applications in coatings, adhesives, elastomers and other fields.
Disadvantages: Isocyanate catalysts have high reactivity and require strict control of reaction conditions, otherwise they may cure too quickly or incompletely. Isocyanates may be irritating to the human body and require safety precautions.
