Silicone is widely used in the aerospace field, mainly due to its excellent high and low temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, electrical insulation, oxidation stability and lightweight properties. The following are the specific applications of silicone in the aerospace field:

1. Sealing materials
Seals: Silicone materials can be used to manufacture various seals, such as engine seals, pipe seals, hatch seals, etc. These seals can ensure the stability and safety of the internal environment of aerospace vehicles and prevent the penetration of liquids and gases. In particular, silicone rubber sealants are widely used in the aviation industry. There are many types, such as general silicone sealants, high temperature resistant silicone sealants, conductive silicone sealants, etc., which can meet the sealing needs of different parts and working conditions.
Sealing coating: Silicone sealing coating can prevent the penetration of liquids and gases, protect metal surfaces from corrosion, and further extend the service life of components.
2. Thermal insulation materials
Silicone materials have low thermal conductivity and excellent thermal insulation properties. They can be used to make thermal insulation materials for aircraft, effectively reducing heat conduction and ensuring the normal operation of aircraft. When a spacecraft reenters the atmosphere, its high temperature environment requires the insulation material to have excellent high temperature resistance. Silicone materials are the ideal choice to meet this demand.
3. Lubricants
The engines and other mechanical parts of aircraft require high-performance lubricants to reduce wear and friction. Silicone lubricants have excellent high temperature resistance and chemical stability, and can provide good lubrication under extreme conditions, thereby extending the service life of mechanical parts.
4. Thermal protection materials
When a spacecraft reenters the atmosphere, it will be affected by high temperatures, and high-performance thermal protection materials are required to protect the safety of the spacecraft and astronauts. Silicone thermal protection materials have excellent high temperature resistance and thermal stability, and can effectively isolate high temperatures and protect spacecraft and astronauts from damage by thermal radiation.
5. Combustion agent
As an important combustion agent component, silicone has high energy density and high combustion efficiency, and is widely used in aerospace engines. Silicone combustion agents can provide strong thrust and improve the performance of spacecraft.
6. Electronic materials
The electronic equipment of spacecraft needs to use high-performance electronic materials to ensure normal operation. Silicone has high electrical insulation properties and excellent radiation resistance, and can effectively resist electromagnetic interference and radiation damage. Therefore, silicone electronic materials are widely used in the aerospace field in key components such as electronic components and circuit boards to ensure the stable operation of spacecraft.
7. Composite materials and coatings
Silicon materials can also be used to manufacture aerospace composites, which have high strength and high modulus and are very suitable for various applications in the aerospace field. At the same time, silicone coating materials can protect aerospace devices from corrosion and aging, and increase their service life.
8. Shock-absorbing materials
Silicon materials have excellent shock-absorbing properties and can effectively absorb and disperse impact energy. In the aerospace field, silicone materials can be used to manufacture various shock-absorbing parts, such as aircraft tires, rocket buffers, lander buffers, etc., to reduce impact loads and protect aerospace vehicles from damage.
